Though this is a small chain, Magma has the feel of an independent bookshop, with obscure, fascinating and glossy photographic and art books. Some of the coffee table books are the price of a, er, coffee table but for a £10 gift, the ‘Cool Shops’ series from Taschen is ideal. You can easily spend hours here, leafing through the volumes. There’s also a selection of funny, quirky postcard books and adult cartoons for those who find proper ‘Art’ too tiresome.
