Mark Addy - © Ben Rowe/Time Out
Head chef Robert Owen Brown's food is the stuff of legend among Manchester foodies. His latest venture has seen him transform the previously underwhelming riverside Mark Addy into a sumptuous dining experience.
In the bare brick dining room of this former boat landing station, you can sit back and watch the river flow by while enjoying the signature black pudding potato cake with poached egg (£5.75) or the monthly six-course Gourmet Evenings (£30, last Wed of the month).
Locally sourced ingredients are paired with the best produce from microbreweries and an extensive wine-list that more than matches the quality of the food.

We went to this place on the recommendation of the website for son's graduation celebration lunch and were bitterly disappointed. The place looked tired, toilets were horrible and that was even before the food. Menu looked exciting but was all mouth and no trousers-style over substance. My fish starter still had big inedible scales on and was overcooked and crispy. Son's pig's trotters were reconstituted meat with too much sage & black pudding stuffed inside, that the trotter got lost! My fish main course was beautifully presented with the bones removed & arranged like a red sail (it was covered in paprika) on the fish; however it was oily and too peppery. Smoked pigeon breast salad too salty. Chips with T bone steak looked great but were soggy on outside not crispy and undercooked in the middle. My mother's smoked haddock saved the day.
Needless to say we didn't have pudding, wont go back to eat there again. May try out the pub as it looked like some interesting local ales. Saving grace was that the staff were friendly even though they insisted we needed two bottles of fizzy water when we only wanted one. Wine was reasonably priced & good. Good location interesting vaulted roof!
Place to go in Manchester. Super food, great ale and eye candy not too bad at weekend, or even mid-week !
I will be back
