The Modern combines a cracking menu with unparalleled views, so it's little wonder that the eaterie walked away with the Restaurant of the Year award at the 2009 Manchester Food and Drink Festival. Try the salt beef potato cake from the regionally sourced - and reasonably priced - Tastes of Manchester menu before sampling the lethal but delicious Hemingway daiquiri from the extensive cocktail list.
And, with the National Football Museum opening downstairs in 2011, the upper level bar will soon provide the perfect place to stop off for a half-time beer and gourmet sausage roll.
