Heaton Park - © Simon Buckley/Time Out
Nestled in the foothills of the Pennines, Heaton Park is one of Europe's largest municipal parks. It contains eight English Heritage listed buildings, a boating lake, four championship-standard bowling greens, a golf course, a herd of highland cattle and a petting farm. The park hosts numerous concerts throughout the year.
At its heart is Heaton Hall, an elegant neoclassical country house designed by James Wyatt in the late 18th century, the former home of the Earls of Wilton. Although partially restored, the house is currently closed to the public.
