Miami Beach Cinematheque review

A storefront space on Española Way is home to Miami's only cinematheque. It's the base of the Miami Beach Film Society, under whose aegis the cinema screens independent and experimental movies and film classics to a seated audience of just 50 (more when screenings are held outside). Like every good alt arthouse, the cinematheque is about more than movies. Art exhibits hang on the walls, and there may be music, a mini-festival or talks (for instance, two local drag queens recently discussed the closing of a legendary nightclub). One annual festival is the Florida Room, a series of documentaries grouped under a theme. There's no food or drink available at the venue itself, but the excellent little Frenchified A La Folie is just a few doors down the street.
