The Clay's location - on the corner of Washington and the café-lined, Euro-style Española Way - is excellent: nightlife is nearby, as are Lincoln Road Mall and the beach. The Mediterranean-style building was once the headquarters of Al Capone's gambling syndicate and, later, a set on Miami Vice. These days it attracts adventurous nomads. In addition to the cut-rate dorms, there are also private or single-sex rooms. Lodgings are basic but clean.
