Downtown Miami is the next place to be, if you believe the hipsters. The Conrad, an iconic skyscraper, is certainly chic. The streamlined glass and steel architecture, by Bermello Ajamil, will please modernists. And the classy 25th-floor lobby offers a sweeping panorama of skyscrapers and Biscayne Bay. The bedrooms are simple and elegant, with luxurious materials (ostrich leather headboards, creamy marble bathrooms and 700-thread-count sheets). The rooftop pool and tennis court are cooled by a breeze, and you can munch on a Kobe burger while you sun yourself. The slick Atrio restaurant, and the bar off the lobby, both have a romantic vista of twinkly lights. The downside? The Downtown revival has yet to take off, so there's little to do around here. You could always marinate in Guerlain products at the elaborate Spa Chakra.
