On a sleepy backstreet, this low-rise 1930s hotel is an undiscovered gem. Its claim to fame is that Clark Gable stayed here (in Room 225) during World War II, when he was stationed in Miami with the Army Air Corps (the hotel is named after the cadets who resided here). But guests care more about the modest prices and tasteful art deco decor. Floors are a classy mix of terrazzo, dark wood, bamboo and sisal matting. Walls are pastel shades. In some rooms, there are Chinesey four-poster beds and antique wood furniture. Flat-screen TVs and watering can showers are further perks; breakfast is served in a lush garden. In the small lobby bar, you can swoon at Gable's photograph. The Cadet isn't perfect, but frankly, at these prices, we don't give a damn.
