Move over, Delano. The Gansevoort, the uber-cool boutique hotel that revitalised New York's Meatpacking District, is set to make a splash in Miami. The new $500m playground will liven up a sleepy stretch of Collins with its jaw-dropping extravagance and high style. The showpiece is a $1m shark tank in the lobby, and a massive 110ft rooftop pool that doubles as a bar in the evenings. Two fashionable restaurants from the Big Apple will lure foodies: Philippe (by Philippe Chow of Mr Chow's) and STK, a trendy steakhouse. The bedrooms are large and plush but restrained: a tasteful mix of grey and white hues, adorned with vintage-style photographs of starlets. Raspberry and turquoise accents match the condoms in the minibar's sex kit. Other luxuries include 40in TV screens, Sony iDocs and a whopping three telephones per room (the rooms are big, but they're not that big!). South Beach is a bit of a schlep from here, but you may not want to leave the hotel.

WHATS THE DEAL?? With last year's foreclosure how has the hotel suffered? We're looking for a place to stay for a long weekend in May?
