Time Out says

Head lice, jury service, chlamydia – just a few of the things we’d hoped to get before a sequel to 2010’s time-travel-in-a-jacuzzi comedy ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’. In that movie’s defence, it starred John Cusack, who doesn’t return for another dip, and his absence is calamitous.

Left behind are three distinctly underwritten supporting characters: raging jerk Lou (Rob Corddry), who has used time travel to buy himself heavy-metal fame and invent a Google-like tech giant, Lougle; Nick (Craig Robinson), a pop star who steals other people’s hits before they even know they’ve written them, and Jacob (Clark Duke), a failure-to-launch son.

After Lou is shotgun-blasted in the penis, the trio plunges ten years into the future to track down the culprit. Some put-downs hit the mark: the grizzled older Lou looks like ‘Gandalf the Poor’. But mainly, we’ve got to squirm through long scenes of gay panic (a future hit TV show, ‘Choozy Doozy’, forces anal sex on its contestants). Look, the movie didn’t have to cure cancer or anything. But without the original’s redemptive 1980s nostalgia or any newfound cleverness, it’s  just a manic, flop-sweat-drenched mess.
