Known for its Latin American and 20th-century American art, FIU's museum now boasts a striking new building designed by Yann Weymouth of HOK, the prestigious architectural firm. An airy, three-storey atrium leads to nine different galleries, which show six to eight exhibitions each year, exploring traditional themes from a contemporary perspective. Past exhibitions include a groundbreaking show on Haitian sculpture, both folk and postmodern, and a study of Florida artists. Adjacent to the main building is the museum's Martin Z Margulies Sculpture Park, whose 75 works include major pieces by Anthony Caro, Jean Dubuffet, Willem de Kooning and Joan Miró; it's recognised as one of the country's most important 3D art collections.
