Merrick House review

The boyhood home of city founder George Merrick was designed by his mother, Althea, and built between 1900 and 1906. It offers a charming glimpse into 1920s Coral Gables, a colourful era when the City Beautiful that Merrick lovingly envisioned was starting to grow. Note the use of oolitic limestone (commonly called coral rock) quarried from the nearby Venetian Pool, the Dade County Pine and the gracious veranda. Inside, the house is filled with Merrick family artwork, photographs, furniture and memorabilia. Tours last 45 minutes.
