Who in their right mind would ever pay $25 for a hot dog—OK, a Kobe beef hot dog? Diners at this posh steakhouse, that’s who. Command central for carnivores and those who devour a good, star-studded scene, Prime 112 (“Prime One Twelve”) is perennially packed. The aged beef is delish, as are the soy-marinated sea bass and the massive salads and side dishes, but the real dish here is the crowd, a silicone- and Botox-enhanced mass of glamazons and wannabes on the hunt for a man—or woman—who can afford to pay $25 for a wiener without batting a surgically improved eyelash.
Getting a table at Prime 112
Prime 112 is a gauranteed stop for any famous person visiting Miami. From the Kardashians and Jennifer Lopez (and her latest arm candy) to the likes of Cameron Diaz and Lebron James, if you're on screen, you're a shoo-in for a table. For the rest of us mere mortals, getting a reservation at Prime 112 proves to be more difficult. Consider booking a weeknight or for weekend lunch. Smaller parties are typically easier to seat than large groups. Even with a reservation, you'll have to wait for a table once you check in with the hostess. Don't fret—the bar has free candied bacon to tide you over while you wait for your name to be called.
What to order at Prime 112
You get what you pay for here—most everything on the menu is top-notch, albeit supremely expensive. Most entrees clock in at upwards of $40 (an 8-ounce filet mignon is a cool $39) and can go as high as $98 for a porterhouse steak for two, though you can certainly break the bank with the priced-per-ounce Kobe filet ($35/ounce). Sides are served a la carte and every single potato iteration—sweet, baked, mashed, scalloped, fried—is worth the splurge ($15 for french fries, even the truffle kind, should be considered a splurge). Composed dishes offer a range of seafood options and fowl, which are only worth a look after you've eaten your way through the meat menu. This is a steakhouse, after all. Dessert is a toss up between fried Oreos and a slice of key lime pie. Our suggestion: order both.
