While the quality of theatre here is sometimes uneven, the mission is clear: a careful blend of modern classics and new, sometimes controversial, pieces by up-and-coming playwrights. In 2003, New Theatre put Miami on the map with the debut of Cuban-born, Miami-bred playwright Nilo Cruz's Anna in the Tropics, which received a Pulitzer Prize that year.
