Acting classes for kids range from Broadway basics and dance theater to moviemaking and staging techniques—everything your little orphan Annie needs to wow her family in the audience.

Atlantic Acting School
Children form their own thespian company and sharpen their acting chops via theater games, improv, costume play and storytelling. Older kids (ages 9 to 11) can join the Performance & Playwriting group, following either the Short Play or Sketch track to ultimately produce an original work by the end of the semester. 76 Ninth Ave between 15th and 16th Sts, suite 537 (212-691-5919, atlanticactingschool.org). Broadway Bound Kids
A professional teaching artist leads these musical theater workshops. Classes are broken into two age groups: Mini Stage Stars (ages 5 to 8) and Broadway Bound Players (ages 9 and up). At the end of each session the younger players perform a series of shows they help create, while the older set mounts a full musical review. Child's Play NY
This theater program invites little ones to immerse themselves in fantasy scenarios as they sing, dance and act. In Imagine That!, preschoolers reinterpret familiar stories and make up their own wacky scenarios. Fairy Tale Theater and Mini Musical classes allow kids to stage some of their favorite works of literature, and older students (ages 7 to 11) will rehearse and perform an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. CurtainUp Kids
Through dance, drama and vocal training, children ready themselves to put on a well-known musical at Under St. Marks Theatre in the East Village. Experience is less of a requirement than enthusiasm, energy and the ability to cooperate with peers. Cap21 Studios, 18 W 18th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves (917-494-7620, curtainupkids.com). Fall session begins Oct 2. Twelve classes $480. Ages 6 to 16.

The 52nd Street Project
Limited to kids nine or ten years old who live in Hell's Kitchen, the project's Playmaking Program meets weekly for nine weeks and teaches basic playwriting skills. The course is capped off with a weekend writers' retreat during which kids write a short play to be staged at the Five Angels Theater. Once the introductory course is completed, programming is available through high school free of charge for all participants. 789 Tenth Ave between 52nd and 53rd Sts (212-333-5252, 52project.org). Fall session begins Sept 10. Free. Ages 9 and up.

Four Corners Creative
Lessons in dance, acting and voice run the usual gamut—from theater arts to hip-hop classes—but the standout here is a visit each semester from a theater and dance professional, who teaches a routine and answers questions about show business. Go Pop Kids
In the school’s theater class, kids learn about everything that goes into the making of a musical—this year, The Wizard of Oz. At the afterschool dance program, children can take classes in ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop. Perry School, 155 Bank St between Washington and West Sts (212-255-1685, perryschool.com). Harlem School of the Arts
The  program focuses on providing quality art education across four disciplines: music, dance, theater and visual arts. Fall session begins Sept 14. Seventeen weeks $360 and up, plus $40 per student or $50 per family annual registration fee. Ages 2 to 18.

Kids 'N Comedy
Wee wiseacres study their favorite comics on video, learn how to write and perform jokes, and bounce material off working comedians. Red Carpet Kids Improv University
Pros from comedy groups like Second City and the Upright Citizens Brigade school kids on the art of improvisation with the use of games, songs, and practice scenes. Sing Smart Act Smart Youth

Aspiring Audra McDonalds learn how to shine in the spotlight as trained soloists. Even though kids learn the principles of music theory, improvisation and movement in group workshops, everyone receives enough private voice instruction to belt out a solo in the program's grand finale: a musical showcase that's produced, written and directed by students. TADA! Youth Theater
Kids master simple footwork and original songs in TADA!'s Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! classes; at the end of the semester, they put on a show for family members.
