What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a federal holiday honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. It originated after the Civil War and is often marked with parades and memorials.

Memorial Day takes place on the final Monday of every May. This year, it's on Monday, May 25, 2015.
