Families headed to Museum Mile tonight should check out the 6:30pm opening of "P.S. Art 2011: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Usually artists wait a lifetime to have their artwork displayed at the venerable institution, but the honor has come early for the 61 New York City public school students ages 5 to 19 whose paintings, prints, sculptures, mixed-media works, collages and drawings are on display. The works—which beat out more than 750 entries—cover a broad spectrum of life experiences, from students with special needs to those in advanced-placement art classes. If you miss tonight's opening, don't worry. The exhibit is on display at the Met's Harold D. Uris Center for Education through the first week of August.

"P.S. Art 2011: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids" is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through Aug 7 (212-535-7710, metmuseum.org).
