Misaki Kawai at The Children's Museum of the Arts

Kids get an introduction to multidisciplinary art with Japanese artist Misaki Kawai's site-specific installation at the Children's Museum of the Arts, "Misaki Kawai: Love from Mt. Pom Pom," which has transformed the museum's main gallery into an imagined world called Mt. Pom Pom. We got to check it out last night and can only say: Kids are going to love it. Using painting, drawing, sculpture, books and zines, video and animation, Kawai has populated the space with giant fuzzy creatures and other exuberant inhabitants (check out our slide show, above), which communicate her belief that the most important quality an artist can have is the ability to trust their instincts. Through June 10. Children's Museum of the Arts. All ages.
