ARTY FACTS AT THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM
Designed to cultivate kids' art vocabulary, this weekly workshop combines gallery tours, movement activities and hands-on projects. Children begin by looking at the institution's halls (they're often asked to mimic poses depicted in specific works of art), then move on to the studio to work with paint and clay. Sun 11am, 1:30pm. $10 per family of up to four, plus museum admission. Ages 4 to 7.

A CLOSER LOOK FOR KIDS AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
After exploring three to five works of contemporary art, such as Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night or Henri Matisse's The Red Studio, children and their parents discuss what they've seen and reinterpret it through movement, sketching or poetry. January's theme is "My Kind of Place," while February's is all about reusing and recycling everyday objects. Sat, Sun 10:20--11:30am. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the information desk prior to the activity. Free with museum admission. Ages 5 to 10.

DROP-IN ART WORKSHOP AT THE JEWISH MUSEUM
Each session of the weekly workshop has a different theme. In January, kids learn about illustration and collage as they relate to the exhibit "The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats"; in February, they'll examine the permanent collection. During Dig Drop-In, on the second Sunday of each month (noon--3pm), kids get down and dirty in a simulated archaeological dig, sifting through sand to find replicas of ancient artifacts, then sketching their discoveries. Sun 1--4pm. Free with museum admission. Ages 3 and up.

JUST DROP IN! AT THE SOLOMON R. GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM
Families meet in an appointed gallery each week, where kids check out a cart loaded with puzzles, blocks and sketch pads. Educators are on hand to show your tot how to use a viewfinder to focus on a detail in a painting, or help her draw what she sees in a particular work of art. Sun 1--4pm. Free with museum admission. Ages 3 to 10.

START WITH ART PLUS AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
While exploring the Met's vast collection, little ones listen to stories, then get crafty. Look for these special themed days: On January 22, kids find dragons in the Chinese galleries and make shadow puppets; on February 19, they'll explore American art and use special watercolor pencils to create an adventure. Tue 2:30--3:30pm; Fri 4:30--5:30pm; Sat, Sun 11am--noon, 2:30--3:30pm. Free with museum admission. Ages 3 to 7.
