One of the best reasons to take in museum events is that it's an excuse to get your clan out of the house and into the city's world-class museums. Once you're there, it's easy to make a day of it. That's why it's really lucky that so many NYC institutions are not only offering plenty of ways to celebrate the holidays, but are also mindful of the holiday break, offering out-of-school kids museum events for every day of the break. From printmaking sessions and sculptathons at CMA to WWII history sessions at the N-YHS, you're bound to find something to sate your budding museumgoer's curiosity.

Björk's Biophilia workshops

City kids will get to know the Icelandic musician Björk, her music and a little bit about how her mind works, thanks to the launch of CMOM's Biophilia workshops, based on the singer's lauded interactive app of the same name as the album that spawned it. Kids will get a hands-on tutorial of the app, which lets them learn about and make music, investigate natural phenomena or just listen to Björk's celestial music. Each song from her Biophilia album opens up access to interactive games and art activities, abstract animations and musical notation that allows a sort of karaoke experience, among other experiences. Participants will use the app on iPads donated to the museum for the project, a collaboration between the artist, CMOM and the New York Public Library. Check CMOM's website for scheduling details. Reservations are required for weekday workshops; weekend workshops are first-come, first-served. Ages 5 and up.
