Elisabeth Hasselbeck The bubbly blond conservative on The View is famous for her fierce political fights with her liberal coworkers (Rosie and Whoopi, we’re looking at you). But off-screen, Hasselbeck plays a kindler, gentler role as Upper East Side mom to her two kids, Grace, 3, and Taylor, 1, with her husband, NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck. Time Out Kids sat down with the polarizing personality to chat about less contentious topics, including one of her favorite charities, her life as a working mom and the qualities that make her kids quintessential New Yorkers.
How do you balance your professional and personal commitments?
I never use the word balance, because it’s more about juggling than anything else. I prioritize the things that need to get done at work, and I ask myself where I’m spending the majority of my time. The answer to that question always needs to be “with my family.”
What’s the best part about raising kids in the city?
There’s vibrancy here; everything is charged with information. Every day is a learning experience for city kids, and they are really sort of forced to interact with everyone around them and develop into social beings.
Where do your kids like to hang out?
Anywhere in Central Park. My daughter requests the playgrounds by name because we go there so often. The Met is also a great spot. We packed a lunch last summer and ate it on top of the roof among the Jeff Koons sculptures.
