Earth Day Indoors at Grand Central Terminal
The Big Apple's most famous train station showcases green technology, sustainable products and an Earth Day outdoor stage featuring performances by Annie & the Bee Keepers, PushMethod, Amber Rubath, the Whispering Tree and more. Sat Apr 21 10am--5pm. Grand Central Terminal, Main Concourse. Free. All ages.

Family Art Project: Who Will Speak for the Trees? 
Kids fashion portraits of trees out of burlap and mixed papers with help from visiting storyteller Rama Mandel, who will read The Lorax and The Giving Tree. Sat Apr 21 10am--1pm. Wave Hill. Free with garden admission; admission to the grounds is free till noon on Saturdays. All ages.

First Annual New York Green Festival
Coming to New York City for the first time, this family-friendly festival boasts 300 local exhibitions, musical performances and panel discussions by speakers who champion the green movement. Sat Apr 21 10am--7pm. Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. $15, weekend pass $25, $10, full weekend pass $20 in advance, kids under 18, adults over 65 and anyone who rides a bike to the event and parks with the bike valet is free. All ages.

Jumpstart Earth Day Storytime
Settle in for some Earth-themed stories told by volunteers from Jumpstart, a nonprofit that helps children in low-income neighborhoods develop language and literacy skills. Sat Apr 21 at 10am. Barnes and Noble Park Slope. Free. Ages 5 and up. 

Sesame Street: "Love the Earth" at Sony Wonder Tech Lab
Get the Earth Day celebration started one day early by bringing the kids to the oh-so-adorable Sesame Street episode "Love the Earth." The tale follows Elmo, Zoe and Baby Bear to Bear National Park as they search for the elusive blue-feathered swallowing swallow. Along the way, the crew learns about all kinds of easy things they can do to help nature, such as saving water, recycling and putting trash where it belongs. R.S.V.P. is required on the Monday of the week the screening is scheduled. Sat Apr 21 at 10:30am. Sony Wonder Technology Lab. Free. Ages 6 and under.

A Recycled Percussive Hootenanny with Billy Jonas
Watch Billy Jonas bang around onstage with found objects like buckets, broom handles, bottles and keys. Part of Symphony Space's "Just Kidding" series, this show might get kids more excited than ever about the joys of using recycled materials. Sat Apr 21 at 11am. Symphony Space. $11--$20. All ages.

Earth Day Recycled Art at City Treehouse
Budding artists can celebrate Earth Day by decorating reclaimed frames, making their own paintings and drawings and fashioning birds out of recycled bottles and paper tubes. Sat Apr 21 11am--1pm. City Treehouse. Free with museum admission. Ages 2 to 5 years.

Compressed Earth Legos 
After listening to a round of Earth Day stories, kids will get to roll up their sleeves and build their own mini shelters out of lego blocks made from compressed earth. Sat Apr 21 11:30am--12:30pm. McNally Jackson Books. Free. Ages 3 to 8. 

Family Workshop: Eco-Alphabet
Kids can spell out their favorite Earth-themed words in an interactive workshop that provides natural and recycled materials to be used as art supplies. Sat Apr 21 11:30am--12:30pm. Sony Wonder Technology Lab. $5. Ages 5 and under. 

Get Green South Bronx Earth Fest
During this GrowNYC-organized event, which aims to educate families about sustainability issues, kids can enjoy music and dance performances, stop by the electronics recycling booth, and compete in games like the Boogie-Down Sort-a-Thon and the Great Metal/Glass/Plastic Toss at the Recycling Olympics. Sat Apr 21 noon--4pm. St Mary's Park, St Ann's Ave at E 146th St, Bronx (212-788-7900, grownyc.org). Subway: 6 to E 143rd St--St Mary's St. Free. All ages. 

St. George Day Festival
Now in its sixth year, the St. George Day affair fetes the arts and diversity of the local community with music and dance performances, a puppet show, crafts for kids and a book fair. A particular highlight is the dragon parade, which features one 30-foot-long spectacle and another made out of repurposed materials. In honor of Earth Day, kids can also take part in such green activities as planting seeds. Sat Apr 21 noon--8pm. Tompkinsville Park. Free. All ages. 

Earth Day Garden Walk 
Celebrate nature with a kid-friendly jaunt through the grounds of this sumptuous green oasis. A tour guide will lead kids on a hunt for signs of spring, including early-blooming flowers. Sat Apr 21 at noon. Wave Hill. Free with garden admission. Ages 6 and up.

Celebrate Earth Day!
Make the most of spring by basking outside on the grounds of the Richmondtown Library, where kids will learn a thing or two about local trees and animals. Afterward, seeds will be given out for planting. Sat Apr 21 2:30--3:30pm. New York Public Library, Richmondtown Branch. Free. All ages. 

Stories, Songs and Activities That Celebrate Our Earth
Storyteller Regina Ress performs during this afternoon of stories and songs from native cultures around the world, all of which express the bond between Earth and its inhabitants. Sat Apr 21 at 4pm. Bronx Library Center. Free. Ages 5 and up. 

John Flynn Earth Day Concert
Kids will surely be humming along to singer-songwriter John Flynn as he plays an earthy set of folk tunes. Sat Apr 21 at 8pm. Alley Pond Environmental Center. $25. All ages.
