Amazing Bronx River Flotilla

SUNDAY, APRIL 22

Children's Carnival
Trek out to this working farm for a country carnival, held in the orchard. Among the festive offerings are amusement rides, midway games and a magic show in the barn (2, 3, 4, 5pm). Sun Apr 22 11am--6pm. Queens County Farm Museum. $10. All ages.

EarthFest
The festivities at the Bronx's largest Earth Day celebration begin with volunteer projects such as planting, weeding and mulching, followed by environmental fun and games, nature walks and a musical performance by Patricia Shih. Sun Apr 22 noon--3pm. Playground for All Children. Pelham Bay Park. Free. All ages.

Historic Richmond Town BBQ Cook-Off
Similar to the Chili Cook-Off, which takes place the day before, the BBQ Cook-Off draws more than 20 contestants from all five boroughs, all of whom compete to win over the judges with mouth-watering chicken, pork ribs, pork butt and brisket. After you've sampled the food, explore the rest of the event's attractions, among them rides, games, crafts and live entertainment. Sun Apr 22 2--6pm. Historic Richmond Town. $10, children under 18 $5. All ages.

National Grid Earth Day Celebration
Taking place on the Brooklyn College campus, this all-afternoon event educates families on energy conservation through Earth-themed face-painting, recycling-themed games, live steel-drum music and exhibits from the American Museum of Natural History, the New York City Fire Department and the event's main sponsor, National Grid. Sun Apr 22 at 3pm. Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts (at Brooklyn College). Free. All ages.

First Annual New York Green Festival
Coming to New York City for the first time, this family-friendly festival boasts 300 local exhibitions, musical performances and panel discussions by speakers who champion the green movement. Sun Apr 22 11am--6pm. Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. $10--$65. All ages.
