You're a New Yorker through and through, but is the city really the right spot to raise a family? Is it time for the dreaded retreat to the burbs? We think not! This is the best city in the world, and we all know it. Our list will have you re-thinking your reasons for moving...after all, who can say no to top-notch family restaurants in NYC, super cool children's museums and the best family attractions in NYC?

No need for an ugly minivan. We have Uber, taxis and the subway!

1. No need for an ugly minivan. We have Uber, taxis and the subway!

You always dreaded that moment when you'd become minivan-eligible, and now there's no need to worry about it. You're in New York City, and you can get anywhere for about $2.75 if you play your cards right! Added bonus: Thanks to all the noise on the subway (looking at you, Union Square station drum circle), you'll never have to worry about your screaming kid being the loudest, most annoying thing on the train, either!

Forget the peanut butter and jelly! It may be true that most children love pizza, frozen chicken nuggets and pasta, but in New York City, we aim higher. Our kid-friendly restaurants are great foodie spots like Shake Shack, Serendipity and Alice's Teacup.

Think that children's theater means bad actors in cheap animal costumes singing crappy songs? Go to the New Victory Theater on 42nd Street to see the best family entertainment from around the world—circus, opera and puppetry. Broadway is also more kid-friendly than ever before—shows like The Lion King, Aladdin and Matilda are enchanting visitors from here and abroad.

Sure, suburban kiddos often have access to their own private yards, but here we have dozens of scenic parks to choose from, and every one is different! From Central Park to Prospect Park, New York is full of the best open spaces for play!

NYC museums for families are unrivaled

5. NYC museums for families are unrivaled

Our museums are the finest in the land—if not the world. City kids know their way around the highfalutin Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and the Morgan Library & Museum; they dig the gritty Coney Island Museum and City Reliquary, and they value MoMA and MoMath equally. And we aren’t talking school trips—our kids hit these joints for fun on a regular basis to check out new exhibits, family days and special events.
