Get the hiccups with the Paper Bag Players

The kids’ comedy troupe is back again for their 55th year performing. Hiccup Help involves a dancing dinosaur, a pizza delivery man and a safari adventure, and as always, sets and props made entirely from paper sacks. Ages 3 to 8.

Say farewell to Fantasia

All 23 feet and 300 pounds of the Brooklyn Children Museum's beloved Burmese python are moving to the Staten Island Zoo, and visitors have until Feb 9 to wish the 20-year-old Fantasia (pythons are expected to live to about 20 to 25 years old in captivity) well on her new journey by creating "Fan" mail for the celebration. But city kids can look forward to visiting her at the zoo, where she'll have better veterinary care and more space—which should be a welcome change, considering last August's minor escape from her cage! All ages.

See Bessie's Big Shot at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre

In City Parks Foundation's first production of 2014, Bessie the—what else—cow attempts to join the circus by proving her worth in weightlifting, flying trapeze and monkey-training. Based on the PuppetMobile show of the same name, it'll premiere at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre for the first time, along with new characters and extended scenes. Ages 3 to 9.

Hear local indie bands play kid-friendly tunes

The Kidrockers series features indie bands performing kid-friendly versions of their own songs (that means questionable lyrics are removed). This time around, Kidrockers has proved they can deliver yet again with a lineup of big names, including pysch rockers Spires and the Brooklyn-based sister quartet TEEN (Jan 26). Comedians Seth Herzog and Craig Baldo will host, so you can count on a few laughs to go with your dancing. Ages 3 to 13.

Go see "Human Plus: Real Lives + Real Engineering"

Engineering may sound like a boring field, which is just what this kid-friendly exhibition sets out to dispel with examples of how people have use various technologies to enable people to do something better, easier—or just plain do it at all. Among the highlights: a hands-free computer mouse, controlled by subtle movements of the head and a limb that can be controlled by a person's thoughts. A particularly fun activity for kids is the Caring for Your Pet station, where they can create a tool with which a wheelchair user can pick up his or her pet's bowl. Ages 4 and up.

Gear up for the Super Bowl at Liberty Science Center

MIni football fans can get psyched about the big day—Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands—with a visit to this interactive NFL-themed exhibition. Kids can check out historical artifacts like a jersey worn by Mean Joe Green, compare their body size to those of actual football players, try on NFL uniforms, step into an Instant Replay Booth similar to those used by NFL officials, and learn about new devices that let players and coaches exchange information. There will also be chances for kids to meet NFL players (on Dec 27, 28 and Jan 20) and get to know New York home teams,the Jets and the Giants at a Hometeam Heroes section. All ages.
