Celebrate It's My Park Day 2013 by lending a hand on May 4
When you stop and think of all the wonderful things NYC parks do for us, you and the kids may want to do something wonderful back on It's My Park Day 2013.

Each year, the NYC Parks Departments hosts It's My Park Day, an event that invites New Yorkers—families included!—to freshen up city green spaces by painting benches, raking leaves, planting bulbs, mending fences and more—then fete the spruce-up with family-friendly activities like nature walks, historic house tours and face painting. This year's grassroots event takes place Saturday, May 4, and with weather projected to be sunny and in the sixties, it ought to be a perfect day to be outside. To track down a project near you, go to the Parks Department dedicated Web page. Here are just a few of the outdoor happenings on tap: At Valentino Pier in Red Hook, Brooklyn, you can join Red Hook Boaters for a shoreline cleanup, then take kayak lessons; kids get a special planting activity, plus yoga and face painting at Union Square Park; at Poe Park in the Bronx, kids can take part in comic book drawing, arts and crafts, storytime and games; and at Marine Park families will enjoy face painting, clowns and light refreshments while raking, sweeping and mulching the grounds. Enjoy!
