Celebrate New York State Museum Week from June 10-16

Culture vultures, rejoice! New York State Museum Week runs from June 10-16 at museums throughout New York.

Museum of the Moving Image

Museum of the Moving Image

This week is New York State Museum Week, and from Monday, June 10 to Sunday, June 16, cultural institutions inside and outside of the city are celebrating the unofficial cultural capital of the world with awesome discounts and events. With over two dozen participating museums in NYC alone, there’s something for everybody—art lovers, history buffs, aspiring scientists, and everything in between.

The highlight of the week is the Museum Mile festival on Tuesday, June 11—the nine participating museums along the namesake stretch of Fifth Avenue will offer free admission, plus a street fair with musical performances and hands-on activities for kids.

Lots of our favorite NYC museums will offer discounts all week long—the Museum of the Moving Image, Rubin Museum of Art, Mount Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden, Wyckoff House Museum, and others are selling two-for-one tickets. The Children’s Museum of the Arts and the Staten Island Children’s Museum are both knocking a dollar off their admissions price, and the New York Botanical Garden, Queens Botanical Garden, and Museum of the City of New York will also boast hefty discounts. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is offering free same-week admission and free tours at its sister museum, The Cloisters, through June 16. Click here to see the full list of discounts, and here to see the full list of special museum events and exhibitions.

Museums throughout the state will be celebrating through Sunday, too, making this an awesome opportunity for a weekend day trip. Journey to the Finger Lakes and scope out Rose Week at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park. Swing by on Sunday, June 16, for the Father’s Day Car & Motorcycle Cruise. Or head to Long Island for a visit to the Long Island Maritime Museum’s Pirate Festival from June 15 to 16. Visit the Museum Week website for more state-wide events.
