Citi Pond celebrates the winter with new programs for NYC families
Take your crew to Bryant Park to enjoy skate rental discounts, literary events and movies on the ice.
Fri Feb 1 2013
New York's only free-admittance ice-skating rink just got hotter, with February events that'll convince your family to brave what we hope will be the last month of cold weather before springtime arrives. Thanks to Citi Pond's "Read to Skate" program, kids ages 17 and under can score a reduced skate rental price of $10 from now until Sunday, March 3—all they have to do is flash their NYC library cards. To promote the public library system among New York City youth, the rink is also hosting literary events like Hats Off to Dr. Seuss, a 50th-anniversary celebration of The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins with four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon (Mon Feb 4), as well as a read-a-thon and snow globe–making session (Mon Feb 11). Meanwhile, New Yorkers can enjoy gratis film screenings at Citi Pond's Third Annual Winter Film Festival every Monday in February. As you eat dinner at Celsius (the rinkside lounge will be serving themed bites!) or enjoy a family skate session, your brood can catch classic flicks like Disney's Peter Pan (Mon Feb 4), Singin' In the Rain (Mon Feb 11) and Grease (Mon Feb 25). All viewings begin at 7pm and include surprise on-site giveaways.
