Fall Kids Fest

It's one of our favorite days of the year! On Saturday, October 19, we'll be hosting our annual Fall Kids Fest with the great folks at Madison Square Park and we coudn't be more excited about this year's program. Read on to find out what's planned—everything from a costume parade to a magic show—and make sure to stop by the Time Out Kids booth to say hi. We'll see you on Saturday!

RECOMMENDED: Download our October calendar

Visit the Time Out Kids booth
Get your little one's picture taken in front of our popular photo booth (photos will be posted on our site next week). We'll also be giving out free subscriptions, gift bags and raffling off terrific prizes, including show tickets (Annie and the New Victory Theater)and gift certificates to some of our favorite stores (Giggle and the Children's Place).

Celebrate Halloween
Our favorite October holiday may still be over a week away, but we're celebrating Halloween all afternoon long at MSP! Come dressed in costume and march in one (or both!) of our parades led by clowns from the Big Apple Circus (noon at the music stage, 1:30pm at the reflecting pool). Then, pick a pumpkin from the patch and decorate it to take home (the theme this year is owl pumpkins!). Master carver Hugh McMahon will also be on hand for pumpkin carving demos. Kids can get their faces painted, too—choose from six options including a wtich hat and a pumpkin.

Watch a performance

Two of our favorite birthday party entertainers will take to the stage at the fest—watch a magic show by Max Darwin (12:30pm) and listen to lively songs by the Little Rockers (1:30pm). Also on tap: a performance by the Central Park Zoo's Wildlife Theater (11:30am) and three sets by Songs for Seeds (11am, noon and 1pm at the reflecting pool). Plus, a DJ from Radio Disney Jr. will be spinning popular tunes. You'll also want to keep an eye out for the Wildlife Conservation Society's roaming turtle character!

Take part in a craft activity
Throughout the day, children can make egg maracas with the Little Orchestra Society, fold paper with Taro's Origami Studio and MoMath, design superhero masks with the Central Park Zoo's Wildlife Theater, create foam pumpkins with Let's Gogh Art, construct puppets with the New Vic, make magnet paintings with Storefront Science and check out science- and construction-themed activities courtesy of Apple Seeds.

Listen to a book reading
At the books tent, kids can hear Brooklyn author and dad Tad Hills read Rocket Writes a Story at 12:15pm. (Hills recently welcomed us to his home to show off his homemade Halloween costumes for kids!) Louelle San Juan reads from her title, The Crowded Kingdom, at 1pm followed by a button-making activity. The Girl Scouts of Greater New York will also be on hand for bookmark-making.

Play a game
Enjoy outdoor games (think bean bag tosses and relay races) courtesy of Gate Hill Day Camp, Hill Country and Clif Kid.

Get excited for upcoming films
Celebrate the November 27 release of Disney's Frozen in the movies tent with games and activities.

Have a bite to eat
Sample free goodies from Treats Truck, Clif Bars and Melt Bakery. Families will have their choice of cherry, cotton candy, pumpkin cheesecake or lemonade flavored ices from Rita's Italian Ices. Hurd's Family Farm will be giving out fresh apples!

Fall Kids Fest
takes part in Madison Square Park on Saturday, October 19 from 11am to 2pm.
