FREE Tours for Fours

Parents and their four-year-olds tour MoMA's galleries. This month they'll focus on the theme "Earth, Sea, Sky: Nature in Art," as they explore the museum's collection. Tickets are distributed at 10am at the reception desk in the Cullman Education and Research Building (4 W 54th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves) on a first-come, first-served basis. Age 4 (younger siblings are allowed to tag along).

Youngsters tour the museum's permanent collection and temporary exhibits. This month's topic, "Shape Up!," encourages them to focus on the importance of form and shape in artwork. Tickets are distributed at 10am at the reception desk in the Cullman Education and Research Building (4 W 54th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves) on a first-come, first-served basis, and include museum and program admission. Ages 5 to 10.

Nina Stone, a.k.a "Miss Nina," uses her pink guitar to entertain toddlers with stories and songs from her CD, Singing & Dancing Together. Ages 4 and under.

FREE Meet the Author: David Rottenberg

As the writer reads his story Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig aloud, performers from the Joffrey Ballet School present a dance interpretation of the work. Even better, the school's children's dance director gives mini lessons to all would-be ballerinas. After they've been introduced to the world of dance, two full-scholarship gift certificates will be raffled off. Ages 3 to 8.

FREE 18th Annual Earthfest Celebration

Celebrate Earth Day early with volunteer planting and weeding, or come by later in the day for info stations, eco-wise games, nature walks and kids' crafts. All ages.

The Chelsea kids' book store honors Earth Day with a garden of author readings, including Patrick McDonnel's Me...Jane, Peter Brown's The Curious Garden, Sean Quall's Giant Steps to Change the World, Monica Wellington's Gabby & Grandma Go Green and Brian Yanish's ScrapKins Build-It Book. Ages 2 and up.

FREE Handiwork: Crafts and Tasks from the Past

It might be hard for your little ones to imagine a life before Wii and texting, but they can get a taste of pre-tech life at the park's centuries-old Dutch farmhouse, where volunteers demonstrate doll making, whirligig building, and other games and crafts from the 1800s. Ages 6 and up.

FREE The powerHouse Arena Easter Frolic

Children tote their Easter baskets to the Dumbo bookstore for a lively egg hunt. Giveaways, a storytime and other hoppin' holiday festivities are in the mix as well. Reservations recommended. Ages 3 to 8.

FREE Queens Botanical Garden
Sun Apr 17 4--6pm. 43-50 Main St at Dahlia Ave, Flushing Meadows--Corona Park, Queens (718-886-3800, queensbotanical.org). Travel: 7 to Flushing--Main St, then take the Q44 bus south to Dahlia Ave.
Last year the garden instituted an admission charge, but on Sunday afternoons families can stillimmerse themselves in the sights and smells of spring for free. All ages.
