Toy Fair 2014

We visited the behemoth Toy Fair at Javits Center in Manhattan this week to get a first look at some of the coolest new toys coming on the market for kids in 2014. Among hundred of amazing products, there were a few in particular that grabbed our attention.

RECOMMENDED: 50 things to do this winter

We saw several eco-friendly playthings we liked from conscientious companies like Green Toys, whose Safe Seas Set includes a toy submarine made from recycled-plastic milk jugs and a storybook inspiring families to keep the ocean clean and safe. And Apple Park has a new cuddly line of Farm Buddies—animal toys made from 100 percent certified organic cotton and sustainable filler.

Another trending theme was toys centered around education in the STEAM fields (STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—plus a new addition, art). Thames & Kosmos wowed us with a high-tech Smart Car Robotics project kit, which kids can build and operate from a tablet or smartphone and drive through a virtual city using QR codes. Their line of Geek & Co. science and craft kits also incorporates learning into fun experiments and projects.

Other favorites were a remote control–operated electric skateboard from Maverix; figurines inspired by the quirky bunnies from Nickelodeon's animated series Rabbids Invasion; and girl rock star dolls the Beatrix Girls, complete with cool accessories, band instruments and their own original music available on iTunes, Spotify and more. Click through the slide show, above, for some photos from our day at the fair—we can't wait until these amazing creations hit the shelves later this year!
