Globetrotter Week kicks off in New York City (slide show)
To celebrate the start of their 2013 season (and Globetrotter Week), two Harlem Globetrotters players dribbled their basketballs across the Manhattan Bridge.
Wed Feb 13 2013
On Tuesday, February 12, two Harlem Globetrotters crossed bridges with their basketball skills—literally. TNT Maddox, the first female Globetrotter in 20 years, and Buckets Blakes dribbled their way across the Manhattan Bridge from downtown Brooklyn to Chinatown to kick off their 2013 season. The two players dribbled bright pink Spaldings, which will be used in every game, to represent a season-long campaign against breast cancer. They ended their journey at P.S. 124, where 100 students greeted the basketball stars with a Globetrotter-themed pep rally (click through our slide show above to see pictures). The event also marks the start of “Globetrotter Week” in New York City, which includes several anti-bullying assemblies and games at area arenas through February. The games are part of the team's "Write the Rules” world tour, where fans get to decide the rules of the game. Kids can vote for their favorite rules—like Two-Ball Basketball and Double Points—at harlemglobetrotters.com.
