Governors Island to be open seven days a week in 2014!

It may only be December, but we're already dreaming about next summer when Governors Island, for the first time, will be open every day of the week.

Governors Island

Some great news for Governors Island fans (and c'mon, who isn't?): The green oasis will be open seven days a week for the 2014 season, which runs from May 24 to September 28. In addition to 30 new acres of park space, the island will also now be home to a day spa; the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Art Center at Governors Island will also expand their presence with more building space.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the ferry will now cost $2 round-trip for adults (children will continue to ride for free and senior citizens will pay half price.) The morning ferries (exact times TBD) on Saturday and Sunday will remain free to everyone. While we can no longer call Governors Island the city's "best free getaway," it will no doubt continue to be one of our favorite things to do in the summer.
