Little Red Lighthouse Festival 2013

It's no secret that the annual Little Red Lighthouse Festival (this October, held over Columbus Day weekend on Saturday, October 12) is one of our favorite events of the year. In addition to live music, fishing clinicis and theater performances, families got to listen to a reading of the 1942 children's book, The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde H. Swift (the "gray bridge" referes to the George Washington Bridge, although it's never named in the story!).

RECOMMENDED: Download our October calendar of events

For many, though, the coolest part of the day may have been climbing up to the tippy-top of the lighthouse and taking in the views—especially on such a beautiful afternoon. Scroll through our photos to see all of the day's events.
