If you're wondering which NYC museum to bring the kids to during their winter break, you might want to know that the Museum of the City of New York has something special in store: Its second annual Sweet Treats in December event, in which the museum serves up free artisanal ice cream from NYC-based Blue Marble to all admission-paying visitors, starts Wednesday, December 26, and lasts through January 2 (note that the museum is closed on January 1). If you do go, be sure to check out "Currier & Ives and Other Winter Tales," an exhibition of the design firm's works of New York winter scenes, including images of skaters on Central Park Lake, accompanied by paintings depicting similar tableaux—plus such real-life accoutrements as 19th-century skating garb and a real-deal one-horse open sleigh.
