Brooklyn’s first-ever School of Rock is poised to debut in Gowanus sometime in March, so grab your guitars, mics, and drum sticks, and get ready to rock!
The Gowanus franchise is just one of School of Rock’s 100-plus U.S. locations, at which kids receive individual or group music lessons from professional and well-known musicians. In a three-month-long program, mini Baezes and McCartneys from ages 7 to 18 can begin their musical journey in Rock 101 or hone in on their talents with other like-minded young musicians by forming their own bands. Each program culminates with a show at a local venue in the heart of one of the music capitals of the world.
The school's after-school music program is set open its doors on Douglass Street to budding musicians between the ages of 3 and 18 with a Grand Opening party on March 22 from 1-4 pm.
Of the new location, franchise owner Mike Addesso said, "Why Gowanus? The area is exciting because it's an emerging arts and culture neighborhood. It's a nice mix of kids, families and artists. The real estate is also great- you get big warehouses to play with."
School of Rock is just one of up-and-coming Gowanus’s cool new spots—be sure to check out the new outpost of Ample Hills Creamery, opening in the nabe this May, and stay tuned for news about family hours at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club; for the moment, this spot is adults-only.
