A California sea lion pup at the Prospect Park Zoo

While waiting for school to start, we have the perfect idea for a scavenger hunt: Track down five cute sea-lion pups, all of whom arrived with heart-warming stories and are now at New York City zoos.

The five California sea lions got to the zoos in different ways: Two were rescued off the coast of California, and after a rehabilitation period were brought to the Prospect Park Zoo; two others were transferred from Oregon's Department of Fish and Wildlife to the Queens Zoo. And a female sea-lion pup was born at the Bronx Zoo in June—the unnamed cutie makes her debut with her mother, Indy, this month.

Happy zoo-hopping!
