St. Patrick's Day for kids can either be a day to hide indoors from the wild crowds at the Fifth Avenue parade, or a day to explore the city's Irish heritage and take advantage of kid-friendly events around town. (This year's holiday is on Sunday, March 17.) We're going with option number two! A Tribute to the Tredwells' Irish Servants

New York's oldest preserved 19th-century house offers a tour of the fourth-floor servants' quarters, which were recently restored and repainted in their original colors. Brooklyn St. Patrick's Day Parade

Dodge the boozy crowds of Manhattan's Fifth Avenue parade and head to Brooklyn for its street celebration of all things Irish. If your family wants to march (good luck!), assemble at noon at Prospect Park West and 14th Street. Just watching? The parade begins at 15th Street and Prospect Park West, marches down Seventh Avenue to Garfield Place, then turns and proceeds along Prospect Park West to the starting point. All ages.

Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade

Even though St. Patrick's Day officially takes place on March 17, Brooklyn-based broods can keep the fun going by rounding up the crew for the 20th annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade later in the month. "Stepping off" at 1pm, the parade will start at the corner of Marine Avenue and Third Avenue, and will proceed down Third Avenue before ending at 67th Street. All ages.
