Thursday, November 24
Thu 24 9am--noon. W 77th St at Central Park West to Seventh Ave at 34th St (social.macys.com/parade2011).
The 85th annual extravaganza returns once again to New York City's streets, bringing with it a slew of spectators (about 3.5 million!), floats topped with myriad celebrities, horn-tootin' marching bands and, of course, giant balloons. All ages.
Thu Nov 24 at 8am. Long Island City YMCA, 32-23 Queens Blvd at 32nd St, Long Island City, Queens (718-392-9401, licturkeytrot.com). $10 per child, family of four $20; in advance $8 per child, $15 per family.
Work up a sweat on Turkey Day with this event designed to help keep kids active while fighting obesity. Kids get to compete in different races (length varies by age) for cool trophies, and each participant gets a medal, T-shirt, goodie bag and much more. Bonus for parents: while the little ones are running, enter a raffle to win great prizes like a free one-month membership to the YMCA or a free one-hour personal training session. All ages.
