Queens Museum Opening Weekend Family Day

Suggested admission will be waived for Veterans Day—perfect, considering that's when the museum is hosting a dedicated family day in honor of the new space. On tap all day long are gallery tours, art-making workshops—from circuit bending and storytime to puppet making and Korean brush painting—and a performance by artist Peter Schumann, the artist showcased at the museum with two exhibition spaces and a giant mural. All ages.

Veterans Day Parade

Families can honor those who have served in the military at the annual New York City Veterans Day Parade, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. Servicemen and -women and marching bands galore march up Fifth Avenue from 26rd Street to 53rd Street. The parade also marks the beginning of the Marine Corps Toy for Tots Drive. Spectators are encouraged to bring playthings with them to the festivities—the toys will be collected at various spots along the parade route. All ages.

Veterans Day at the New-York Historical Society

Families are invited to celebrate Veterans Day in the company of costumed "soldiers" from the Third New Jersey Regiment, a troupe that played an instrumental role in the American Revolution. They can also take part in a Beekman Family scavenger hunt for objects this actual Dutch family used in 17th- and 18th-century New York, and search for Civil War–era objects in honor of the book The Civil War in 50 Objects—yes, two scavenger hunts! All ages.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

You'll get a kick out of this holiday stalwart, which—after 85 years—still features Santa, wooden soldiers and the leggy, spunky Rockettes. In recent years, new music, more eye-catching costumes and advanced technology were introduced to bring audience members closer to the performance, including this year's new number, called "Snow," in which the decor, costumes and technology transform the stage into a winter wonderland. Sketches of Central Park
