Prove it at the open casting call for the kids' movie–turned–Broadway show on January 24 RECOMMENDED: January events calendar for kids in NYC   Kids itching to bring their musical talents to the stage won't want to miss out on their chance to play with an especially rockin' band. Mini musicians have the opportunity to show off their skills during an open casting call for School of Rock—The Musical, a kid-friendly show hitting Broadway later this year.Based on the 2003 film, the musical production will star a group of talented kids who set out to win the Battle of the Bands with help from their quirky teacher, Dewey Finn. As part of a nationwide search for young rockers, kids ages 9–15 are invited to jam out onstage at the Winter Garden Theatre on Saturday, January 24. The weekend features the best selection of child favorites from around the world- representing 30 countries and films for all ages.  Younger kids will enjoy a host of animated shorts on Saturday and Sunday from Counting Stars (ages 2-5) that teach little ones to count.     Families can now visit Betty and Veronica, two rescued adult grizzlies living in a newly remodeled habitat at the Central Park Zoo RECOMMENDED: Indoor play spaces for kids Kids' movies and books like Madagascar and Paddington aren't the only way for families to see wild animals living in the city! The Wildlife Conservation Society's zoos in four out of five NYC boroughs are home to all sorts of creatures, and the Central Park location is welcoming two new residents this week. Two adult female grizzly bears named Betty and Veronica are settling into their very own habitat which previously housed polar bears, but was recently remodeled just for them. Visitors can check out the new grizzly bear exhibit starting this Friday, plus learn about how people can better coexist with bears in the wild thanks to educational materials in the zoo's upper level viewing area overlooking the bears.
