Jon & Kate announce separation
Wed Jun 24
If you're anything like the other trillion Jon & Kate Plus 8 fans in the world, you probably tuned in on Monday to watch the celereality couple reveal their big announcement, otherwise known as the worst-kept secret in TV. (In case you missed it, you can catch the clip here.) After admitting they were separating, they went on to explain that the arguments between them were not healthy for the kids, and that while they could stay together, doing so would only be detrimental to the family. The eight kids will remain in the house with Jon and Kate doing the commuting, switching residences when having custody. Famous or not, it's awful to watch any household fall apart, and you could see the anguish on both Jon's and Kate's faces. What really got me, though, was when I was re-watching the announcement online. When the clip ended, past episodes began streaming. Yes, Jon and Kate have had their issues, but there was still a lot of love there, and you can see it in the adventures the ten of...
Stacy London hosts MAT fashion show this weekend
Thu Jun 18
Stacy London, resident fashionista on TLC's super-addicting makeover show, What Not to Wear, is hosting the annual "MAT Hits the Runway" fashion show this Saturday. If you've never heard of it, let me school you: The show features designs created by students from the Manhattan Academy of Technology (also known as P.S. 126), one of the few public-school fashion programs in the city. But don't expect to find anything even remotely resembling the stuff you patched together in your Home Ec days. I went last year, and the pieces I saw strutting down the runway were so well-made and sophisticated it was hard to believe they were created by adolescents. The designs ranged from formal wear to sporty ensembles, but my favorite from 2008 had to be a dress made entirely out of—wait for it—Capri Sun wrappers. Too cool. If you've got a couture-inclined kid—or even if you don't—head to the show and prepare to be impressed. MAT Hits the Runway Splashlight Studios, 75 Varick...
Jon & Kate to "make an important announcement" Monday
Thu Jun 18
Though we hate to perpetuate the gossip mill, this promo for Monday's episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 intrigued us. According to Kate's mopey voice over, the couple have an "announcement to make" and have apparently made some "life-changing decisions." Well, duh, it's gotta be divorce! Or does it? Do you think TLC is just toying with our emotions, only to reveal that the two are staying together? Better question: How are we going to survive the weekend with all this anticipation!? Watch the clip below, then give us your predictions.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game hits stores today
Tue Jun 16
In case you didn't see our video-game roundup in the July issue (which has already hit stands), Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a hot summer release, and it's available beginning today. In celebration of Ghostbusters' 25th anniversary, Atari is reuniting fans with the ghoul-fighting quartet, Venkman, Stanz, Spengler and Zeddmore. Voiced and written by the original 'busters themselves (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis), the game invites players to make their way through the streets of ghost-inhabited Gotham, blasting and trapping every phantom in sight. The game starts off in the famous Ghostbusters firehouse (fun fact: In the original flick, filmmakers used NYFD Hook & Ladder #8, located at 14 Moore St as their home base!) where newbies can engage in a game-play tutorial to get the hang of things before jumping into action. If you've seen the movies, you'll spot familiar ghosts like the green-oozing Slimer and the creepster himself, Vigo the...
