Snag tickets to Off-Broadway shows for just 20 bucks

    Tue Feb 2

Seeing theater feels even sweeter when your seats come cheap. Thanks to a promotion by 20at20, tickets to family favorites such as The Gazillion Bubble Show and Dear Edwina are only $20 each for a limited time. There is a catch: You can't buy tickets until 20 minutes prior to the performance (and if it's sold out, you're out of luck). However, if you don't mind taking a chance (and frankly, most of these shows usually have last-minute seats), head to the box office 20 minutes prior to curtain, say the magic words, "20at20" and you and your kids will be in for a night of inexpensive fun. The offer only lasts until Sunday, February 7, so don't hesitate. Visit 20at20.com for the full list of participating shows.

Asphalt Green to open Battery Park City location

    Tue Feb 2

Good news downtowners! Popular Upper East Side sports hub Asphalt Green just announced that it's opening a new location in Battery Park City on North End Avenue—in 2012. Yes, that's a while to wait, but it's bound to be a boon for lower Manhattan families. The facility will include a 25-yard pool, a gymnasium, a culinary studio and a 156-seat theater, and offer an array of activities for kids (soccer, gymnastics, baseball, swimming, martial arts) and parents. Are you already counting down the days? Well, you can keep on the complex's progress at the Asphalt Green's BPC website . We bet it opens long before the Second Avenue subway...

    Tuesday's event pick: Groundhog Day

    Tue Feb 2

If you're anything like us, you've got your fingers crossed that ol' Staten Island Chuck doesn't spy his shadow this morning. As legend has it, if he does, we're in for six more weeks of winter. If you're willing to brave the cold temps today, you can catch the Staten Island Zoo 's resident groundhog's prediction in person (maybe he'll even nip the Mayor again this year). Don't let us down Chuck!

Save 25% on tickets to Nickelodeon's Storytime Live

    Mon Feb 1

Nickelodeon's made a pretty smart move with its new live stage tour Storytime Live . Instead of a show featuring just one set of animated icons, this musical extravaganza showcases a quartet of tales starring characters from four separate series: Dora the Explorer, The Backyardigans, Wonder Pets! and Ni Hao, Kai-lan . (Sorry Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! fans.) Storytime Live hits Radio City Music Hall March 31 through April 4 and you can save 25 percent on tickets to non-peak performances by clicking here and using the code NICKWEB. Update: As of March 31, it seems the discount only works on tickets priced $46 or more, and again, only for non-peak performances.
