Last-minute gift idea: video games!
Mon Dec 21
If you're still struggling to find the perfect gift for the kids in your life, may we remind you about the wonder of video games? Seriously, we just gave a few to a tween we know and received a truly ecstatic response. They're an ideal offering for a number of reasons: kids love them, they'll keep tykes entertained during the winter break, and finally, they are super easy to find. We suggest choosing one or two from our round-up of the year's top games ; the list includes pricey options such as The Beatles: Rock Band ($60--$250) as well as more reasonable diversions, including Where's Waldo: The Fantastic Journey ($20--$30) and Scribblenauts ($30) . You can find them all at your local Game Stop.
How to make the most of the snow in the city
Sun Dec 20
Good morning! We know what you're waking up to: about a foot of snow. If you haven't been outside yet, you're in for a treat (unless you have a car or a sidewalk to dig out). If your original plans have been canceled due to the weather, we've got a bunch of ways for you to make the most of this white (almost) Christmas. Check out our roundup of the best sledding hills in the city , including a little-known Upper East Side slope . It's also a great day to ice-skate . Remember, the Pond at Bryant Park may be the only free rink in the city, but most of the others have very reasonable entry fees, including the brand-new temporary rink in Battery Park . If you're planning to build a snowman, we've got expert tips (seriously!) on how to make your Frosty particularly fabulous. Lastly, if your kid's too little (or too cold) to dig the snow, we have a roundup of indoor play spaces , organized by neighborhood. Whatever you do today, enjoy the winter...

Exclusive Princess and the Frog products at Carol's Daughter
Fri Dec 18
Lisa Price, a Brooklyn mom of three and the founder of Carol's Daughter , has partnered with Disney to create children's hair and body products inspired by The Princess and the Frog . The set , which includes shampoo, detangler, conditioner and bubble bath, can be purchased online or at one of the chain's city locations . Price's 3-year-old daughter Becca started testing the products a year ago. "She had a bit of a lisp and when testing she would say, 'Mommy, I want to mell it. Mommy, it mell pretty," says Price. "Now she refers to the set as 'her' things. Her shampoo. Her bubble bath. And the boys are not allowed to touch it!" Unfortunately, the mother-daughter duo hasn't seen the flick yet. "I've been traveling for work and I didn't want to see it without her," says Price. "We will be seeing it together Christmas weekend!"
