Store opening: Pink Olive
Fri Feb 29
One of my favorite children's stores, Pink Olive, is opening a second location this weekend in where else but Park Slope (in case you haven't been to the original , it's in the East Village on East 9th Street). The new 600-square-foot Brooklyn store, located at 167 Fifth Avenue, carries products from Dwell Studio, Pink Chicken, BlaBla, Zid Zid, Knock Knock and My Favorite Mirror, among others. I'm a huge fan of their baby clothes—especially the Deadly Girl Couture bodysuits with sayings like "Louis Spitton," "Burpberry" and "Pradada." The best part about the new store, though, is that not all of the gear is for the tiny set. Owner Grace Kang (tell her I said hi if you see her!) is also featuring cool items for the home. If you're in the area this weekend, stop by. Shoppers visiting March 1 to March 3 will receive a free gift with purchase. Go to pinkoliveboutique.com or call 212-780-0036 for more information. Prehistoric pals make kid-friendly Hip-Hop
Thu Feb 28
Baby Loves Hip Hop's newest release is so adorable! The Dino-5 are a prehistoric hip-hop supergroup composed of famous and Grammy winning MCs that teach life lessons while they throw down some nice beats. They are MC T-Rex (Chali 2na), Billy Brontosaurus (Wordsworth), Tracy Triceratops (Lady Bug Mecca), TEO Pterodactyl (Scratch) and the famous DJ Stegosaurus (Prince Paul). The ferocious T-Rex has been transformed into a friendly, misunderstood dino who just wants to be accepted but his paleolithic peers have trouble getting past his mean appearance. True to history, the bronty is still a veggiesaurus while the pterodactyl is the resident beat-boxer and DJ Stegosaurus is the backbone of the group, no doubt because of those plates along his body. Not that dinosaurs were ever uncool, but these dino-pals give them a totally fun, modern makeover. Parents should be thankful that the American Museum of Natural History has suggested admission because you might be making a few trips to visit...

MySpace is cracking down...
Thu Feb 21
If MySpace is the Wild West of the Web then it looks as if the sheriff has finally arrived. The popular social networking site is cracking down by instituting a whole slew of technical safeguards. Kids know it, parents know it and MySpace knows it--tweens can still create profiles even though they are younger than the Website's minimum age of 14. According to the New York Times Technology Blog, you can now enter your child's email and block that email address from being used for registration on the site. MySpace also allows parents to delete their child's account at MySpace's Tips for Parents. Reps from MySpace and attorney generals from 49 states are focused on preventing false identities and sexual predators. The site said it will also hire a contractor to delete pornographic images throughout the site and will try to develop age and identification verification software. It is also deleting profiles of registered sex offenders. Now, if only the MySpace police...
