Dakota, all grown up
Fri Jan 30
Holy crap! Dakota Fanning is going to be 15 next month. It feel like just yesterday when she made a splash in her first big movie role opposite Sean Penn in I Am Sam . If watching your own brood grow up doesn't make the years fly by, then seeing Hollywood kids seemingly jump from 7 to 17 overnight will. She's following in the footsteps of stars like Drew Barrymore and Jodie Foster, who have been in the spotlight their entire lives--every pimple, fashion faux-pas and broken heart chronicled by the media. Last night, Jay Leno interviewed Miss Fanning on The Tonight Show and took us all on a little trip down memory lane to the start of her career. Thankfully, she's still as eloquent in her like-OMG!-no-way teenage years as she was at age 7, without trying to act like she's 27. Dakota, I can't wait to see where you go from here. Just one small request: Please, please PLEASE stay away from Lindsay Lohan. Thank you.

Breaking: NYC youth not entirely jaded
Wed Jan 28
Just when you thought the rugrats of today's America had no sense of decency, it turns out there's hope: An East Flatbush fifth grader stumbled upon a wallet with over $500 bucks on his way to school, and instead of squandering the dough on Bubblicious, cigarettes and porn, he actually returned it to its rightful owner. The wallet's owner gave the kid $100 as a thank you. As if the boy wasn't already some sort of freaky 10-year-old saint, he spent half of it on "a teddy bear with angel wings, milk chocolate" and other Valentine's gifts for--wait for it--his mom. It's sweet, really. Now can somebody take that "Kick Me" sign off his back, please?
Make your own snow globe!
Wed Jan 28

Get out of the slush and head to Spacecraft in Brooklyn, where little artistes can make their own Valentine's Day-themed snow globes to give to someone special on February 14th. Spacecraft, 355 Bedford Ave at S 4th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-599-2718, spacecraftbrooklyn.com). Subway: J, M, Z to Marcy Ave; L to Bedford Ave. $15. Mon--Fri 10am--6pm, Sat--Sun 11am--7pm. Through Sat Feb 14.
