Billy Ray fires back on Miley's risque photos
Tue Jun 17 2008
We thought the Miley Cyrus nude photo scandal was over but, sadly, we were wrong. Miley's dad, Billy Ray, just sat down with Meredith Vieira on the Today show and answered some probing questions for his take on the matter.
Surprisingly, he was pretty unapologetic about the situation, insisting that when media backlash takes you by storm, there's not much to do but roll with the punches and recover the best you know how. You have to admire the Cyruses for taking the controversy so well; there were never any angry statements issued towards Vanity Fair or Annie Leibovitz, and the relationship between Miley and her pops (seemingly) didn't suffer.
Bed sheet ensconced Miley photos aside, the pictures of the teeny bopper and her dad from the shoot caused a lot of ruckus themselves for appearing a little too, um, cozy. But if you listen to Billy Ray's sentiments at the end of the clip, they seem wholly innocent, as he states, "I'm a dad and she's my daughter. If a dad hasn't hugged his daughter recently, I would recommend he does." In a world full of neglected children, that doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Okay, I guess I am officially on Team Cyrus. Better than Team Spears, no?
