A big perk of being a book editor and reviewer is, of course, all of the free books. The flipside to that is having less time than I'd like to read purely for pleasure. Case in point: Loved Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, but never found the time to read the sequel. And in the two years since it published, it's moved to the bottom of my to-be-read pile. So I was psyched when a copy of Maguire's upcoming middle-grade book, What-the-Dickens, arrived in my inbox. The main character is described as a rogue tooth fairy—does the sprite swipe dentures? Hide the dental floss? I'm definitely intrigued. And, hey: It's work-related.
