Ad Reinhardt isn't as well known as his New York School contemporaries Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, but he was a highly influential figure all the same, known not only for brooding, all-black canvases (which technically were painted different shades of black), but also for his art-history comics, which became the ur-documents of postmodernism. Curator Robert Storr (formerly of MoMA) assumes organizer duties for this show celebrating the centennial of the artist's birth.
