Alexis Rockman, "Rubicon"

Rockman has enjoyed a unique career as a painter of eco-catastrophic vistas that are every bit as ambitious and sublime as Hudson River School landscapes. He's up to his usual tricks in this exhibition, which is anchored by two epic canvases: one depicting the Gowanus Canal in all its toxic, effluvial grandeur; and the other portraying a postapocalyptic vision of the Bronx Zoo in ruins, overrun by its former animal inmates.
